Amiguitos and Intercession Church are sponsoring a Community of Hope Garden. The plan is to reach out to our community and attract those who are interested in vegetable gardening. The vegetables grown will be shared among the gardeners and a substantial portion will be donated to local food banks. Our garden will be part 20 within the "Adams County Community Garden CO-OP" which began in 2007. The number of gardens has steadily increased since then. Members of the church and in the community are welcome and encouraged to join this program and help with the garden. knowledge and experience are not required, just the desire to get your hands in the soil and give it a try. This is a fun way to get to know others in the area and to have a good time as well as to have garden fresh vegetables this summer.
In support in our gardening effort, the City of Thornton will install a separate water meter and provide water free of charge as long as we qualify as a community garden and help the local food banks. They also have offered a $200 grant for start up expenses and $100 for each successive year. Vegetable seeds have been provided by Rocky Mountain Seed Company as well as free seed starts. Many thanks to Tom Rapp of the CO-OP who has tilled the new garden plot for us. To learn more contact our head gardener Ximena Canales, Reverend Curtis Wait, Beth Johnson or phone the office.
